Tips to use Assistant with your family

The Google Assistant can help your family stay coordinated and connected; here are some tips.

Keep your family on track

Help keep your family on track and organized throughout the day, whether it’s setting up a Family Bell to remind you when to start online class or creating a Family Note to remind your partner to pick up the dry cleaning. Just say, “Hey Google, leave a family note that says the dry cleaning will be ready on Thursday.”

Make every day more fun by setting alarms with your kids’ favorite characters. Just ask your Assistant, “Hey Google, set a Hatchimals alarm for 4:00 p.m.” and you’ll hear signature music, jokes, facts, words of encouragement and other fun messages when it goes off. Or create and name your own timers, which now have themed animations and sounds. Whether it’s to keep track of how long your pasta’s cooking or to help you keep your family focused on homework time.

Manage your family’s devices in one place

Set up Voice Match through the Home App to allow your kids to interact directly with the Assistant. They’ll be able to ask questions, play games, listen to stories, and even receive personalized results based on their activity.

Add content Filters to give you the peace of mind to let them explore freely and safely. You can use Filters to do things like block access to music with explicit lyrics, or define which video services are enabled. And to help your family wind down, try Downtime. This will limit the Assistant’s responses to commands or questions, as well as deactivate notifications from your devices.

Find activities for family time

Whether you want to find an activity to do, learn something from home or relax and listen to a bedtime story together, you can find something to keep the whole family entertained.

To hear to a bedtime story, just say, “Hey Google, tell me a story,” and relax while listening along together. Or to find family-friendly educational content, say “Hey Google, learn with my family” and choose from one of the learning activities for your family, with content from ABC Mouse and more.

Turn Friday into games night, by enjoying family-friendly activities like ‘Cookie Detective’ or kick back and watch a video on your Smart Display with YouTube Kids. Just say, “Hey Google, watch Brave Wilderness on YouTube Kids.”

Stay connected with your family, wherever

Check in on their location with Google Location or Life 360 to make sure your teen made it to school or to see what time your partner will be home for dinner. Try saying, “Hey Google, where’s my family?”

And when you want to get everyone together for dinner just say “Hey Google, broadcast ‘Dinner’s ready!’” or broadcast a message to a specific room or device, to help make it even easier to communicate with the whole family throughout the home.
